Much like my first playthrough, I'm playing this as a pretty typical goody-two-shoes: aiming for Benevolent, Honest and Diplomatic in all my interactions. This game is more about what you do than what you are, which is something I like.

Probably not very much, and I do appreciate that, actually. It'll be interesting to see what's different. And this time around I went with a female character. I'm thinking of possibly respeccing at some point to bump them up to 16 each, as my current playstyle is all about staying back and shooting my bow to build up Focus I can sacrifice a bit of Health and Endurance for that.įor race I went with Wood Elf to get that Accuracy bonus at range. I ended up creating a Cipher that's slightly sub optimal as I have 15 in all three of Perception, Intelligence and Resolve. Sure, I could just let my character do their thing in combat while I micromanage somebody else, but still. Thanks for the info! Those three stats are the main stats for Paladins, but I think that playing a tank would probably be a bit unengaging. A fair bit of big late-game plot stuff is based on your Benevolent or Honest or Diplomatic or Aggressive score rather than your stats. (In my most thorough playthrough, I had a good bit of fun with Philosophy Teacher because it came up rarely but led to big crazy digressions when it did.)Īs you probably recall from your first time playing, reputations also drive dialogue choices. Your start-of-game background picks also influence some dialogues. I can look up the specific requirements if you really care but don't want spoilers on what it actually is. There's one possible-fight/possible-dialogue scene in the White Marches extra content that grants cool bonuses if you have the high stats to negotiate the dialogue tree carefully. (I only really did this once, for a side quest where high Resolve was the route towards the optimal "pushy good guy" ending, but IIRC I could also have resolved it by just finding a less efficient/disruptive solution without needing massive Resolve.) So that Per 16 / Int 16 / Res 14 character can become a Per 13 / Res 20 character by picking a different rest option and juggling some gear. Luckily, you can juggle stats using items and rest options, especially once you've built up Caed Nua. There's a few things that are locked behind having ~19-20 in a stat as well. Perception, Intelligence, and Resolve seems to drive the most interesting social options (allowing you to understand a situation better, or persuade someone to fundamentally change their heart ime intimidation-type choices are less useful).ġ6 in a stat gets you through all but the nastiest of stat challenges.
